Ileostomy

An ileostomy is a surgery that makes a permanent or temporary opening known as a stoma. A stoma is used for a pathway from the lowest part of the small intestine, called the ileum, to the outside of your abdomen. This helps reroute solid waste and gas to exit the body without passing through the colon or the rectum.

The pouching system for an ileostomy includes a wafer and a pouch. The wafer can be flat or convex, bowl like backing to help push out stoma for proper drainage. The pouch can be drainable or closed end. Can come in a one-piece appliance or a two-piece system.
